The Lamborghini LM002
It was the world’s craziest, fastest and most expensive four-wheel drive, and customers could choose just about any option including a machine gun on the rear deck. Buyers came from all over the world, but the USA and Middle East were popular markets. Production ran from 1986 to 1992, in which period barely 300 were built. Of this total, 175 featured the four valve carburettor engine from the Countach QV (distinguished by their bigger bonnet bulge) and the rest had a fuel injected engine required by low emissions countries like the USA and Switzerland.
This Motor Car
This Lamborghini LM002 was unusually delivered new in Italy via offcial agent Emiliana Auto Bologna in desirable carburettor, rather than fuel-injected specification. It is the only European delivery LM002 recorded as built in the ‘military uniform’ of Beige ‘101’ with Champagne interior, where the purposeful exterior contrasts with the sumptuousness of the interior. The car has recently been serviced by the ex-factory craftsmen at Top Motors. Award-winning coachbuilders Bacchelli & Villa, the world experts on LM002 restoration, have overseen the cosmetics. Mileage recorded to date is just 8,700km.
Forget the Urus, Cullinan or any other ‘lifestyle 4x4’: they all look like shopping cars compared to the original super SUV, a milestone in Lamborghini history and possibly the least politically correct automobile ever put into production. For that we should all be grateful.
