The new sports-racing machine from Porsche was a radical departure from previous models, featuring an immensely stiff semi-monocoque formed of a moulded glassfibre body bolted and bonded to a pressed-steel chassis. Even the preformed seats contributed to rigidity. Power came from the tried-and-tested four-cam motor used in the 356 Carrera.
