1964 Shelby 289 Cobra

One of 453 street Cobras built with the definitive 289 engine, leaf spring suspension and rack and pinion steering, ‘CSX 2424’ was supplied new in August 1964 and spent most of its relatively quiet life between Ohio and California before its acquisition by the present European owner as a birthday present to himself.

In March 2010 ‘CSX 2424’ was inspected for him by leading Cobra historian Ned Scudder at the California home of its then-owner, Cobra collector and expert Lynn Park. A copy of Scudder’s detailed report is available for inspection, but he notes no apparent evidence of prior body damage, a straight, unrusted chassis, an Edelbrock built 302 cu in Ford small block motor (with the 5 bolt Hi-Po 289 and gearbox carefully wrapped and preserved as spares) and generally good, older cosmetics.

Having acquired ‘CSX 2424’, imported it to Europe and paid all relevant taxes, its new owner has concluded, however, that whilst a lovely Cobra its blistering performance and spartan cabin might have been better suited to an earlier birthday than his 70th.

The car is presently undergoing a general service and check-up in the UK where it is road registered and may be viewed. Welcome anywhere, from historic race tracks to high speed open road touring events in the American West and in Europe, it is an instantly recognized legend which will do much to gratify its next owner’s need for speed.
